The math on typical delivery-app lunches in Dubai gets ugly fast. A "healthy" bowl shows AED 45. Add delivery (AED 6), service fee (AED 4), and the actual cost is AED 55 per meal. Multiply by 20 working days: AED 1,100 a month for lunches alone.
If you've been doing this for a year, you've spent AED 13,000+ on lunch. Here's what works better.
The 5 alternatives (ranked by realistic-ness)
### 1. Subscription meal delivery (best) AED 25–33 per meal on monthly subscription. Hot, dietitian-portioned, no delivery fees, no service charges. Cheapest and most consistent.
Caveat: requires commitment. If you travel often, pick a plan that pauses easily.
### 2. Office-built salad bar AED 12–18 per meal, but only if your office actually has one (some DIFC and Business Bay towers do — Index Tower, Boulevard Plaza, ICD Brookfield). Cheap but you're eating salad every day. Burnout is fast.
### 3. Bring-from-home meal prep AED 8–15 per meal if you actually do it. The "if" is doing 90% of the heavy lifting. Most professionals quit by week three.
### 4. Cafeteria or employee canteen AED 15–25 per meal if your company has one. Quality varies wildly. Often heavy on rice and oil.
### 5. Strategic delivery-app use AED 30–40 per meal if you're disciplined. Pick 2–3 healthy restaurants you trust, set a weekly budget, never deviate. Most people deviate.
Why most office workers default to delivery apps
It's not laziness — it's logistics. By 12:30 PM you're hungry, the meeting's running over, the canteen is mediocre, and a typical delivery app is one tap away. The choice was made by tiredness.
The fix isn't more discipline. It's removing the choice. If a healthy meal arrives at your desk at 12:45 PM, you eat it. Done.
What our office subscription customers spend
Standard tier (1 lunch per day, 30 days): AED 999 per month — AED 33 per meal, free delivery in our 5 zones.
Compared to AED 1,100 a month on the daily delivery-app habit for lower-quality food, you save AED 100 a month AND eat dietitian-built food. That's the entire pitch.
